Bit.dev is a SaaS service for hosting remote Scopes of components, which you can create and host on demand. Scopes on Bit.dev can be:
- Public scopes containing OSS components, visible to all users.
- Private scopes, visible only to the members of the organization which owns the scope.
There is no limitation of the amount of Scopes that can be created by a developer or an organization on Bit.dev.
All the documentation for components including examples, compositions, versions, dependencies, test results etc will be displayed on Bit.dev mirroring the Scope UI for Bit’s local development, and will be updated with new versions of your components exported to Bit.dev.
Bit.dev centralizes the management of your team’s scopes and makes it simple to control permissions for members of your organization. Organization members can create Scopes within the organization and be invited to collaborate on Scopes created by others in the organization.
Organization admins can manage permissions for members and curate the organization’s dashboard. The admins have owner permissions to manage (create, update or remove) all Scopes created within the organization.

Bit.dev provides the world’s most advanced component explorer, which combines smart search and filtering features with an amazing visual experience to indulge your team.
Bit.dev's component explorer allows searching across all the remote scopes that the user has access to, such as the public scopes and the user/organization's own components.
The component explorer uses metadata of the component - tags, language, framework, and size - for advanced semantic searching capabilities, making it quick and simple to find any component that already exists in your team’s codebase.
Reuse and collaboration on components is key to accelerating development and creating a consistent experience for your users across pages and applications.
All components that are exported to Bit.dev are stored in the Bit package registry. The components are available as npm packages that can be installed using standard package managers (NPM or Yarn).
You can install components as packages directly from Bit.dev’s lighting-fast registry and/or integrate it with tools like Artifactory and Nexus.
The components in the Bit.dev registry are available with the
@<owner> prefix, where
owner is the name of the user or organisation which owns the scope you are exporting to. The full name of the component is in the format of
npm i @<owner>/<scope-name>.<component-name>.
